Where is it located?
Collettsville, NC, just under 4 hours from Fayetteville.
How much does it cost?
It’s free, but there is a donation box for you to leave a donation.
Is it kid-friendly?
Yes. Some of the cups are within reach for kids so just keep an eye on them.
Is it dog-friendly?
There’s nothing to say you can’t bring a dog, but keep in mind you’ll be in someone’s yard so clean up after them and keep an eye on them around the cups.
What should you bring with you?

Getting there and parking
The Cup House is located on Old Johns River Rd and you can get there easily using “The Collettsville Cup House” in Google Maps.
As you get closer to the house, it feels like driving into what we’d call in Australia “the never never” and in America I think you’d say “the backwoods.” Just very quiet, country roads.
I lost phone service closer to the cup house, though that might depend on who your carrier is.
In terms of parking, there’s no set parking area because you’re legit just stopping at someones house. We parked off to the side in a little open area by the opposite driveway. Whatever you do just don’t block the road or someone’s house.
What to expect at the Collettsville Cup House
It really is as the name suggests – a house of cups.
When you get there, the house is easy to spot because the cups begin on the fence. Imagine a fence lined with coffee cups wherever there is space for them. That’s what you will first come across. It’s a pretty fun and unique sight to see!
You’ll follow the fence until you get to two buildings completely covered in cups.
They’re everywhere – it’s like a living wall of cups. Almost like the house is wearing a costume. All sorts of different coffee cups from funny to seasonal and everything in between decorate every space of wall.
You’ll even spot some coffee cups in the trees.
I’ve read that if the owners are home they might pop out and say hi.
You don’t need a lot of time to visit because you see the coffee cups, take a couple of photos, then there’s not much else to do. It’s worth visiting but will probably be a quick turnaround like many roadside attractions.
The story behind the Collettsville Cup House in North Carolina
With something as unique as this, there has to be a backstory right?
The owners of the Collettsville Cup House are Avery and Doris Sisk.
Just as the ocean begins with one drop, the cup house began when they purchased a box of collectible cups and hung them as decorations. Since then it took on a life of its own turning into a full blown collection.
Now there are well over 20,000 coffee cups on display!
You can even place one there to add to the collection if you can find a spare nail.
Other things to do in the area
Since this is a fair drive from Fayetteville, I think it’s best done as part of a weekend trip.
Banner Elk is about an hour away and would be a fantastic base for the weekend. There are a lot of things to do there and I’ve already posted this full guide on how to spend a weekend in Banner Elk here which can help you plan a trip. Then I’d just add the Cup House as a stop on the drive back to Fayetteville.
I’ve also stayed at Sugar Mountain at this awesome condo which would make a good base as well. There’s a lot of outdoor adventures in the area and it’s very close to Grandfather Mountain.
Linville Falls is about 45 minutes drive from the Cup House and has some quick and easy hikes with fantastic scenery.
Directly by the Collettsville Cup House is a creek with grassy area and picnic benches. If you wanted a place to stop for a picnic lunch, it’s a quiet and scenic spot.
If you’ll be stopping for food after your visit, I recommend Southern Crossroads for hearty, delicious, big portioned southern comfort food and friendly service. The cream filled pancakes are amazing!
