Where to park

There’s no official parking lot for this attraction.

I used parallel parking on S Main St and walked a short distance up to the giant coffee pot. In the area near the coffee pot, it was free when I visited.

That seemed easiest, so I’d suggest is looking for a spot on the side of the road on S Main St as you get close to the coffee pot.

Keep in mind, a lot of the streets around the area are one way traffic streets. So if you miss a spot, you might just have to take a longer loop to get to where you started (as opposed to doing a quick u-turn).

History of the Giant Mickey Coffee Pot Historical Marker

You might be wondering what the giant coffee pot is all about.

Well, I can help with that!

It was built in 1858 by Samuel and Julius Mickey – hence the name “Mickey” coffee pot. These brothers originally built it as a sign or form of advertisement for their tin shop.

What better sign that a 7ft tall coffee pot?!

It was relocated to the current location in 1959 and now stands as a unique roadside attraction for the city and symbol of hospitality there.

The vintage style of the coffee pot perfectly suits the vintage style of the area and with a backdrop of red bricks and old style architecture, it’s quite photogenic.

What else to do in the area

Seeing the Mickey Coffee Pot is a really quick experience since you see it, take a photo, then it’s over.

If you’re driving the two hours from Fayetteville, I recommend combining it with other attractions to make a day of it.

The World’s Largest Chest of Drawers is about 25 minutes away and is well worth a visit. Here’s my detailed guide for visiting and also video diary.

You could also add-on the Historic Shell-Shaped Shell Station which is just under 10 minutes away.

With those three you have an itinerary for a cool day of unique roadside attractions!

You could also spend the rest of the day strolling around Winston-Salem, visiting museums, gardens, and having a ‘city day’.

If you’d like to do some hiking, Pilot Mountain is about 30 minutes away and Hanging Rock State Park is about 45 minutes away.

If you turn it into a weekend trip, there are a lot of options for accommodation.

I didn’t stay in Winston-Salem, but if I was going to, I’d stay at either The Historic Brookstown Inn or Hotel Indigo.
