Essential Oils For Beginners Kit & DIY Natural Skincare Crafts

Look, I’ll be honest. I heard about people using essential oils but I didn’t really get the hype. I thought it was just a fad for crunchy mums or something, like ‘here little Timmy, 4 drops of this should help your Measles’. I didn’t even realize I was using them myself – I clean my floors with Eucalyptus (try it – your house will smell like a Koalas house!) and I also picked up some oils in Egypt which I use as perfumes. When I started going through blogger burnout last year, I wanted to learn about and try new things to rejuvenate – I started painting watercolor and wanted to learn more about essential oils. I found this essential oils for beginners kit by Simply Earth and it was the perfect match!

What is this essential oils for beginners kit

I like to think of the Simply Earth boxes as an ‘essential oils for beginners kit’.

In the box each month you receive 4 essential oils as well as recipe cards for how to use them to create blends and natural products for the home. In my first box, the crafty products were textured massage bars, lip balm, roll-on lotion, sugar scrub, and body butter, and all the ingredients such as beeswax and coconut oil were included in the box along with the molds and jars.

The recipe cards also have information about the oils as far as their uses and benefits.

Obviously, if you have a diffuser then that’s helpful, but it has everything you need which is why I think it’s great for beginners.

You can still get started if you don’t have a diffuser or anything – I don’t, for the oil blends I made with this box I just put a few drops of oil in the corner of the shower before I get in and let the steam transport it.

Who is it suited for

Here’s the position I was in and I think if you’re a bit the same, it would be perfect for you.

I wanted to try a few essential oils and see what all the fuss was about, but I didn’t have a specific plan for what I wanted to do with them or a specific ailment I was trying to solve.

I was just interested in learning and trying new things.

I also think these are great for minimalists, or aspiring minimalists because you get the supplies and ingredients to make the recipes in small amounts.

I don’t know about you but I’ve made some at home crafts before and had to buy bulk amounts of the ingredients even though I only wanted to make a couple of things, and this always annoyed me.

You end up spending triple the amount of money to DIY when you could’ve bought the ready-made product for way less and then you have random ingredients leftover too.

Once I started making the recipes, I appreciated that I didn’t have big amounts of supplies leftover.

Who is it not suited for

If you’re already knowledgable about essential oils or have a good collection going, then this wouldn’t be the best for you.

What’s cool about Simply Earth

I appreciate that you get to try a range of oils, and I appreciate that you get to put them to use straight away with the recipes.

It’s cool to be able to try new things and learn about oils in a way that I probably wouldn’t have otherwise.

When I made up the recipes I found that I had enough to share with friends and it was nice to be able to pass on some of the products I had made – there’s something special about giving handmade gifts isn’t there?

Some of the things I made – massage bars, roll on lotion, lip balm, and a blend.

Some of the products you make, like the massage bar type products, are handy for travel since they are solids and won’t use any of your liquid allowances or leak in your luggage.

They’re actually so much easier to make than I thought too, so it’s given me the confidence and sparked an interest in making my own skincare products which is helping with my 2019 goal of reducing my plastic use.

Skipping and gifting

When you look on the website you can see what oils and recipes are included in the next month’s box. If you check what is coming and don’t feel like you need it, you have the option to skip it or gift it.

If you’re already budgeting for the monthly box, I like the idea of gifting it and surprising someone with a treat. All you do is add their address info and they’ll get it instead of you.

Otherwise, you can skip it and get back on track the following month.

APO addresses

If you have an APO address, you just need to make an account on their website and you’ll be able to enter your address there.

Once your address is in your account, you’ll be able to shop for whatever you need.

If you have any difficulties, just contact the team and they will help you get it set up.

Benefits

The value for money is the biggest benefit in my opinion. When I was looking into essential oils they started at around $10 for an individual oil.

So to get 4 and all the extras for $39 is a pretty good deal. I also like that it is consumable. You’ll be able to use the oils and products so it’s not just goods that sit around in the house – again, as a minimalist, I appreciate this.

You can buy individual oils and accessories from the website as well.
