The Lazy Lobster

There’s a lot to love about The Lazy Lobster.

I mean, stuffed lobsters is enough to love on its own. I got a lobster tail topped with a crab cake and I tell you, I’ve never felt like more like a queen.

But there’s also the casual outdoor setting, the delicious range of options, and the absolute treat of the warm banana bread served with bread rolls.

It was my favorite place to go during my visit and I definitely recommend adding it to your itinerary.

Key Largo Fisheries Backyard Cafe

At the Key Largo Fisheries Backyard Cafe you can get a delicious seafood meal with a waterfront view.

They have a focus on fresh, sustainably caught seafood and have been serving up local delicacies since 1972. If you’re in the United States and feel like you need a seafood fix after your trip, you can also order fresh seafood from them online.

The casual atmosphere was fantastic and especially cool to see sharks and tarpon from the edge of the water.

I got the Lobster BLT which I’m still thinking about. The lobster nuggets were also pretty damn good! It’s just about as fresh as you can get, so whatever you choose, you’re in for a treat.

Sharkey’s Sharkbite Grill

I didn’t get to visit this spot, but it was recommended to me by someone on Instagram and your recommendations don’t send me astray.

Hopefully you’ll get a chance to visit it.

When I was looking into it I really liked the efforts they take to reduce single use plastic and the casual welcoming of flip flops. As far as food, the Island Ale Shrimp definitely caught my eye as well as the Baja Fish Tacos.

Gus’ Grille

For something a little fancier, check out Gus’ Grille at the Reefhouse Resort and Marina.

It’s another spot that perfectly combines gorgeous views of the water with fresh and delicious seafood.

This was the first place I went when I visited Key Largo and I couldn’t have received a better culinary welcome to the area. The pan roasted shellfish was amazing – lobster, clams, shrimp, and pasta all in one generous serving.

If you’re staying at the resort, I also recommend starting the day with some waffles in the outdoor seating area.

Sundowners

Another great spot to visit is Sundowners.

And it’s another welcoming place with outdoor seating on the water and fantastic views, particularly at sunset.

I had a one woman feast of shrimp, lobster tail, and, of course, Key Lime Pie and it was all well portioned and delicious. The casual atmosphere made for a pleasant experience of feasting and looking for fish in the water.

All in all, a wonderful dining experience and fantastic seafood meal.

The Fish House

The Fish House is a local treasure.

The fish is caught from local fisherman and prepared on site, so if you like fresh fish, this is the place to go. I got a fresh fish dinner and it was *chef’s kiss*. The other thing I really liked about The Fish House was the friendly service and the staff who stopped to have a chat.

This was also my favorite place to get a Key Lime Pie and I definitely recommend trying it while you’re there.

Keep in mind that it’s popular so there may be a short wait if you’re visiting at a peak time.

Where to stay in Key Largo

I stayed at the Reefhouse Resort and Marina (formerly Marriott Key Largo Bay Beach Resort) and it was fantastic. If you’re planning a visit, I definitely recommend it.

A few of the highlights are the beach with beach bar close by – perfect if you want to chill at the beach with a frozen cocktail in hand. There’s also the range of activities that you can organize on site. There’s snorkel tours, eco tours, paddle board, parasailing, and wave runners to name a few.

I have a full review of the resort here if you’d like more information.

Otherwise, I recommend looking on Booking.com. It’s what I have used to book accommodation for years and I can always snag a good deal there.
