The cave room

Let’s talk about the cave room for a second.

I stayed in the Premier Cave Suite and felt like a queen. The 350-year-old room was previously a cave stable which you can tell from the different shapes cut out into the walls. You’ll learn all about that on the tours you’ll do while visiting Cappadocia.

The room I had was a legit cave with no windows or anything.

It made waking up in the morning a little hard because I wanted to cozy up in the dark and sleep in, but they do have other rooms upstairs which have a nice view of the hot air balloons that fly at sunrise.

As far as comfortability goes, I had a heavenly sleep each night in the cool, dark cave surrounded by a mountain of pillows.

The bathroom was exquisite with a huge tub as spacious as the bathroom itself and they even provide slippers to walk around in.

View the hot air balloons

Every great cave hotel in Cappadocia has to have an amazing rooftop view right?

The nice thing about this hotel, in particular, is that it is higher up on the hill which allows for incredible views over the valley below.

Of course, this means there is also an incredible view of the famous morning flight of the hot air balloons.

I sat on the rooftop each morning and evening and it was the most relaxing way to start and end the day, much like the amazing rooftop at Riad Star in Marrakech.

I also had it all to myself each time which was a huge bonus but I might’ve just been lucky with that one.

The breakfast

Turkish breakfasts are on another level.

They are famous for generous spreads of fresh bread, olives, cakes, eggs, cheese, vegetables, and all sorts of other goodies.

Rox Cappadocia honors this famous hospitality well. Each morning breakfast is freshly prepared and it’s just so delicious!

You will not go hungry either. There is a lot to try with a mix of foods you have probably eaten many times before as well as new foods you’ll be able to try.

Personally, I cringe at the ‘breakfast goals’ types of photos you see all over Instagram because it’s clearly far too much food for one person and it’s so wasteful.

I let the staff know they could serve the same food to me each day if they wanted to avoid wasting it, and they advised that nothing is wasted. They give some to the local village and some to the animals in the area.

Add a personal touch to your stay

If you want to add more meaning to your stay, get a copy of my latest book “Your Vacation, My Office.”

It profiles people who work in travel around the world and the owner of Rox Cappadocia, Arda, is featured. You’ll learn what it was really like to build this hotel from the ground up, what keeps him driven, and what he really thought of Kendall Jenner staying there.

The service

What’s great about the Rox is the small group of staff that welcome you.

The owner, Arda, was always around and each morning you could see him checking on everyone at breakfast to see if there was anything they needed.

Not only do they perform the usual hotel tasks like serve breakfast and clean the room, but the staff can also arrange airport transport, book your tours, taxis, and activities and they were always happy to help with anything I needed.

I cannot say enough good things about the team.

The location

To be honest, I didn’t realize why the location of this hotel made it one of the best places to stay in Cappadocia.

It wasn’t until after I had been on the day tours and talked to other travelers that I realized how good the location was.

Mainly, because it’s not in the main city of Göreme.

A few of the other travelers I met mentioned that their hotels in Göreme were great, but the location wasn’t ideal because there was a lot of noise each night.

If you want to be right in the city, then choose Göreme.

The Rox has a sister hotel you can take a look at here.

If you want a place where you can be close to everything but away from the noise, then the Rox is a great choice because it was so quiet and peaceful.

What is near the Rox Cappadocia

There are restaurants, markets, and stores all within walking distance and Göreme is only a 10-minute taxi away.

I did a lot of walking around and shopping at the stores in the area you can get clothing, souvenirs, pottery, rugs and just about anything.

Don’t be surprised if you are invited for an apple tea while you shop.

As with the staff at the Rox, the kind and hospitable people will do their best to make you feel welcome.
