Let’s not pretend that this is all there is to do in Stockholm. But, since there has been somewhat of a Viking theme on my blog, I’m following the trend, OK? So here’s a guide to some of the awesome Viking things to do in Stockholm. I visited over New Year’s and these are some of the things I enjoyed, as well as a couple that are on my list but I didn’t get to see. There’s a mix of everything from museums, to feasts, to authentic souvenirs, and if you’re a bit of a Viking nerd (like me) I think you’ll enjoy it. Also, this is a post I decided to do for fun after visiting Sweden for a family holiday, so these are some iPhone photos from my own collection.
Awesome Viking Things To Do In Stockholm During A Weekend Visit

Visit the Viking Museum – Vikingaliv
When it comes to Viking things to do in Stockholm, your first stop has to be the Viking Museum.
It’s a small but powerful museum with interesting exhibits with everything displayed and explained in a way that’s easy to digest all the information.
There’s a mix of plaques, videos, replica displays, and even photo opportunities, but, in my opinion, the best part is an adventure ride that takes you on a virtual journey with a Viking, Harald.
Another thing I like is that the staff wear costumes and it makes the overall experience that much more unique and fun.

Swedish History Museum
The next stop is the Swedish History Museum, which isn’t solely Viking focused but it does regularly have Viking exhibitions and there is a lot of other interesting exhibitions too.
I especially liked the gory but fascinating ‘Medieval Massacre’ exhibition about the Battle of Gotland.
They have the list of exhibits on their website so you can check if they will have any Viking related ones when you will be in town, but even if they won’t, it’s still an interesting museum to visit.

Aifur Restaurant & Bar
End your day with a Viking themed feast at Aifur Restaurant & Bar.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get to experience this. I booked my reservation well in advance but when it got closer to the date, they had overbooked and were not able to accommodate my reservation.
I’m not so salty that I wouldn’t recommend it here because these things happen. So, I’m still recommending it because it looks like a lot of fun and I’d try to go if I ever returned to Stockholm.
Imagine having a traditional dinner in a Viking themed hall? I mean, count me in!
My only advice is to book in advance because it is popular.

Explore the Runestones
Another one of the Viking things to do in Stockholm is to take a trip to visit Runriket to explore a large collection of Viking Runestones.
This area has a 35km trail made up of 9 sites and where you can see a collection of Runestones and learn about the Viking history in the area. You don’t have to walk the whole trail, but can if you want to.
Use ‘Jarlabanke bridge’ in Google Maps to get here and it will take about 40 minutes from Stockholm using public transport.

Pick up some Viking souvenirs
Finish off with some Viking souvenirs from Handfaste.
At this very cool shop in Old Town, you can choose from things like different types of horn cups, jewelry, accessories for your house, knives, shirts or wood carvings among other things.
I got a couple of drinking horns and they make for a cool display in my kitchen.
They also sell products online which is handy if you won’t have a lot of luggage space or won’t be able to visit Stockholm but still want some authentic souvenirs.
You will see Viking souvenirs all around the city, but if you want better quality products then this is the place to go.

Where to stay in Stockholm
I stayed at the Radisson Blu Royal Viking Hotel and it was awesome.
Aside from it having the word Viking in the name, it was also a great choice because it had a central location that made walking around to Old Town and other sights very easy.
Even though I stayed over New Years when it was fully booked, the staff were all really patient and helpful.
If you prefer somewhere else, I recommend doing your search on Booking.com. That’s what I use to book accommodation when I travel and I can always find a good deal there.
