Where to park and how to get there
It’s located off Cargo Road in Ellerbe, North Carolina. You can use ‘The Berry Patch’ in Google Maps and it will take you directly there.
It was a pretty straight forward drive from Fayetteville.
When you get there, you’ll drive right into the large gravel parking area and can walk over to the building from there.
The world’s largest strawberry building
Ok the pièce de résistance is of course being able to see the World’s Largest Strawberry building.
Why not? Life’s for adventure!
Of course it’s cool to be able to go there and get a couple of photos with such a unique building. There is space around the grassy side of the building to do that.
But, what makes it even cooler is that they sell delicious homemade ice cream from the giant strawberry.
What?! Yes, the giant strawberry is an ice cream shop as well.
There’s not only ice cream but all sorts of sweet treats from cobbler, to banana splits, and fresh drinks like lemonade and sweet tea.
Honestly, I was so indecisive at first because it all looked so good, but I think it’s a good reason to go back and try different things each time.
What’s even better about The Berry Patch is that it’s family owned by Lee and Amy… wait for it… Berry. What a perfect surname for this line of work! They have some signs on the wall with information about the history of the giant strawberry which adds a really nice touch to the visit.
If you are reading this from overseas, you can also learn their story on their website which I have linked below.
What else to do there
If you need some fruit and vegetables, you’re in the right place. There’s a large pavilion with all sorts of fresh produce.
It all looked really good too!
Aside from produce, there is also locally made goodies like jams and honey, and a souvenir area with shirts and hats.
Overall, it’s a great spot for picking up all sorts of local treats.
If you have family visiting, I think this would be a cool place to take them because it’s unique, fun, delicious, and you get to support a local business.
What else to do in the area
You can turn this into a day trip by combining it with a trip to a local museum. There’s one about 5 minutes away from The Berry Patch. Here is my detailed guide for the Rankin Museum of American Heritage to help you plan your visit.
At the museum you can see an exhibit on Andre the Giant who owned a ranch in Ellerbe. Not into wrestling? Well the museum also has exhibits on natural history – think taxidermy animals and Megalodon teeth, local history, native American history.
It’s a really cool place to visit and will keep the kids entertained.
I’d recommend visiting the museum first so that anything you get The Berry Patch like fruit and vegetables doesn’t have to sit in the hot car while you visit the museum. Plus, it’s just nice to finish the day out with an ice cream!
