UPDATED FEB 2020. When you pair the unmatched natural beauty with the endless opportunity for adventure, it’s no surprise that Iceland is one of the world’s most popular travel destinations. I traveled there on a solo trip in April and was very quick to fall in love. It felt like I had fallen into a National Geographic magazine or something! Here are some of my favorite photos to showcase the rugged beauty of Iceland, but it all looks much better in person so be sure to add it to your bucket list! If you are interested in visiting, I’ve linked a couple of my posts with more information at the bottom of this.

Must see beautiful places in Iceland

There is so much to see and do in Iceland that it’s hard to narrow down a list.

If you are short on time, basing yourself in Reykjavik and seeing the Golden Circle is a good idea. In the Golden Circle, you can see things like waterfalls, black sand beaches, Glacier Lagoon, and could even hike to the famous plane wreck.

However, if you have more time, I highly recommend renting a campervan and driving around the Ring Road – the highway that goes around the country.

I have guides for both of these options and YouTube videos as well.

How long do you need to visit Iceland?

If you are staying in Reykjavik and seeing the Golden Circle, I recommend a minimum of 4 days.

For driving the Ring Road, I recommend a minimum of 7 days.

Is Iceland safe for solo female travel?

Absolutely. It’s one of the safest places to visit and is a great option for beginner solo female travelers.

The crime is very low in comparison with other countries, English is widely spoken, and solo travelers are not unusual there so you don’t stand out very much.

Yes they certainly can – Iceland is a great place for watching the Northern Lights. I didn’t see them while I was there because I visited in April though and stayed in Reykjavik.
