FAQ for the Likeke Falls Hike
Where is the Likeke Falls hike?
Kaneohe, approx 30 minutes drive from Waikiki.
How long does it take to hike?
Approx 2 hours.
What skill level is needed?
Beginner – the trail can be a little slippery though.
Is there a cost for the hike?
No, it’s free.
What should you bring with you?
- Good shoes – these are the ones I use for hiking because they are good for water and muddy hikes like this one because they are lightweight and don’t hold in a lot of water and they are good for the dry hikes as well because they provide good grip
- Water bottle
- Change of clothes for afterward or towel for your car seat
- Snacks or a picnic lunch
- Camera – I use a GoPro for my adventures with this compact selfie stick and tripod combo
- Insect repellant
Where to park
There are a couple of different trails to get to the waterfalls so where you park will depend on which trail you want to do.
I chose to park at the Pali Lookout and hike from there.
You could also take the shorter trail from the Ko’olau Golf Course which is a different trail to the one I am mentioning in this post and is about 40 minutes of hiking round trip.

What to expect on the Likeke Falls hike
For the trail I did, I followed Old Pali Road from the Pali Lookout.
You will come to two forks in the path, both times you will take the right path.
And I do mean the right path as in not the left path, and not as in something a preacher would say. There are graffiti trail markings as well as some pink ties to keep you on track.
Trails and markings can change over time, so before you do the hike be sure to do a little research for updated information and follow the markings while you are there.
You will also come to a section where you need to go down a ladder and under the road which I have pictured below.
The falls
The waterfall is one of the smaller ones on the island but it is still a good one to see and a nice day out in nature.
It is not like Maunawili Falls where you can jump off the rocks into the pools because it is not as deep.
It is more the type of waterfall that you go and look at really, though you may also see some people climbing the slippery rocks to see the top tier (they were a bit too slippery for me to climb).
Safety tips
The ground can be quite slippery, especially if it has been raining so keep that in mind.
Also, along that line of thought, make sure to check the weather forecast because if there is heavy rain expected then you may want to hold off.
Bring insect repellant and make sure to reapply because the bugs in these jungle type hikes are pretty intense.
If you take your dog, make sure it is up to date with Lepto vaccinations.
As always, make sure you use your best judgment as far as whether this hike would be suitable for your skill and fitness level and always check the weather forecast before venturing out.
As with all adventures, remember to take your trash with you and stick to the trails so they can be around for others in the future.
Other things to do nearby
If you are looking for other hikes in the area you could check out:
- Maunawili Falls
- Maunawili Demonstration Trail
- Lulumahu Falls
- Kaniakapupu Ruins
The Pali Puka and Pali Notches trails are more advanced trails nearby.
If you want to go to the beach after your hike, I recommend heading to:
- Kailua
- Lanikai
- Waimanalo beach
You’ll likely be a little muddy after the hike so if you want to get some food I would either rinse off or stick to some casual places like Paniolos in Kailua.
Where to stay on Oahu
If you will be staying in Waikiki, I recommend the Hilton Hawaiian Village. I love to stay here when I have a staycation and it’s fantastic.
Waikiki is a great area to stay because there is always so much going on and it’s easy to branch out to other areas of the island on day trips from there.
For guesthouses or other hotels, I recommend searching on Booking.com. I use this to book accommodation when I am traveling and can usually find a good deal through their site.
