UPDATED MAR 2020. I’m so excited to share my first official blog post showcasing a local experience here in Italy! To be honest, I had a few adventures to choose from since moving here. I chose this one because, quite simply, it was just a unique and fun experience. It’s best suited for kids and families, but even I had a fun day exploring it and living in a magical world for the day. In today’s post, I want to help you plan your own visit so let’s take a closer look at the Gnome Village in Asiago.

What is the Gnome Village

To be honest, before I arrived at the Gnome Village in Asiago, I wasn’t sure what to expect.

Is it only for kids? Is it going to be a massive let down? Are there going to be really short people dressed in costume, who work in Gnome like workshops? Because that seems like it would be super inappropriate, but also kind of cool like visiting the Wonka factory.

Skepticism aside, I visited anyway and it was much different from what I expected.

There is a grassy path that takes you into the woods. This is the Gnome trail loop that will eventually bring you back to where you started.

It is an easy course suitable for all ages and fitness levels. We even saw families pushing strollers along the way making this a family-friendly activity for everyone.

The experience

As you walk along the trail there are signs posted where you can stop and learn about the Gnomes. Did you know there is one outfit that single Gnome ladies wear and a different outfit for when they are married? Neither did I!

There is so much to learn which builds the magical atmosphere as you move through the trail. The signs tell you everything you would need to know.

The Gnome Village app

Although the signs are written in Italian, there is a helpful app to allow visitors who don’t speak the language to enjoy the experience.

Before you start the tour, ask at the desk to help you to download their Gnome app. Then, using wi-fi available at the village, the app will guide you around the course and translate each of the signs for you so you don’t miss any of the interesting tidbits.

What to expect

As you follow the course, you will learn many interesting facts about Gnomes. You’ll also get the chance to use exercise stations at some points along the way.

For the parents reading, this is a good time to sit and enjoy a rest on the benches as the kids exercise.

Ultimately, the trail will lead you to the coolest part of the tour which is the fairytale Gnome village itself.

The Gnome Village

The Gnome Village is where you will find Gnome where the Gnomes live. There are houses placed on the ground, in the trees, and there’s even a house with a view by a waterfall.

One of the houses blows bubbles, one blows smoke and the most popular one I saw was a house in the center that allows children to talk to a real-life Gnome!

We saw a bunch of children huddled around this particular house and you just couldn’t help but be excited as you watched the amazement in their eyes as they chatted away to the Gnome.

There was room for the parents to sit on the benches and take a break as the children (and me) explored each of the creatively built houses.

The beauty is in the details

I understand that the village recently underwent some construction.

You can definitely tell there is a lot of work and a lot of heart in the creation of this village, right down to the small details of the information in the signs.

I would hazard a guess to think that the creators wanted to make a fairytale experience for children to keep a little magic flowing in the world.

I have to say, this is something that they have done very well.

What to do after the course

After the excitement of the Gnome Village, the trail will lead you back to the main area. Here you can enjoy a cappuccino and a snack before moving onwards on your journey.

In the main area, there is also a playground for the kids. There are tables outside near the playground, as well as inside with a pool table.

If you want to experience the magic a little longer there is a hotel attached to the Gnome Village where you can stay and continue the fairytale.

Maybe it’s because I am a big kid at heart but I had a wonderful time at the Gnome Village. A little magic is fun to experience, and it was one of the most unique and entertaining excursions I have had.

I highly recommend this as an outing for families, but also anyone wanting to get out and about for a magical fairytale in the woods. Just keep an eye out for the trolls.
