UPDATED FEB 2020. Who can forget the scene in Forgetting Sarah Marshall where Jason Segel is hanging from the side of the cliff trying to look cool after Mila Kunis had so effortlessly leaped into the ocean? Well, the famous Forgetting Sarah Marshall jump spot certainly exists and is on Oahu’s North Shore. You can even jump from the same spot, emulating Mila of course with graceful ease. Here’s a practical guide to planning your own adventure out to this spot.

How to get to the Forgetting Sarah Marshall jump location
You can put ‘Laie Point’ into Google Maps and you will be parking on Naupaka Street, either at the small lot at the end of the street or, if that is full, you can park along the street and walk up.
If you follow the rocks straight out ahead of the parking area you will often see people fishing off the rocks.
Then over to the right is the jump spot.
How to get there using the bus
You can take #19 bus towards the airport/Hickam and get off at Alakea St + Nimitz Hwy.
There you can change to the #60 bus towards Kaneohe/Haleiwa, get off at Kamehameha Hwy + Anemoku St, and walk about 10 minutes to the jump spot.
The trip using public transport will take about 2 hours and make sure to check with the bus driver or staff at your hotel to make sure the routes are current.
Best time to go
You can go any time of year if you just want to see the jump spot, but if you want to actually jump off it then you would need to avoid the winter time.
In winter, the surf is far to rough at this time and most of the beaches are red flagged because of how dangerous the waves are.
It would be too dangerous to do the cliff jump in winter because of the big waves and all the rocks that surround you once you are in the water.
Summer is the best time of year to plan your trip to Laie Point if you want to cliff jump.
The Forgetting Sarah Marshall jump spot
There are a couple of spots to jump from depending on how much airtime you want.
The movie jump is about 30 feet and is over on the right side towards the house on the corner. There is a small ledge once you get closer that you will see.
There are smaller jumps on the left side which also have small ledges to leap from like this one.
That is not me mid-air either – I was able to get this cool picture of someone else jumping. She had friends jumping from the big jump, though I was too far away to capture theirs on camera.
The puka
Once you arrive at the spot in the quiet town of Laie, there is a beautiful puka (hole) in the rocks over to the left.
It stands alone in the ocean like a perfect monument, almost asking you to take pictures of it.
Safety tips
It’s a big jump and once you land you are surrounded by rocks. Use your best judgment here to decide if this is a good cliff jump for you to do.
You need to be confident in the ocean to make your way to the surface and out of the water after you splash in there.
You have to climb back out on the rocks so it’s a good idea to wear some water shoes when you jump or have a friend throw you your flip flops once you’re in.
Always check the weather and pay attention to the surf conditions on the day before jumping – if in doubt, don’t go out.
Other things to do nearby
This is a good place to stop on a day where you are cruising along the north shore and stopping at the sights and beaches along the way.
If you’d like to do other hikes in the area, I recommend:
If you are looking for amazing beaches in the area, I recommend:
- Waimea Bay (there is a much less intimidating cliff jump there if you prefer)
- Kualoa Beach Park
- Sunset Beach
- Banzai Pipeline
For snorkeling, I recommend:
While you are on the north shore, you just have to stop at the Haleiwa sign for a photo and the Dole Plantation for a pineapple ice cream.
Other great food spots in the area are Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck, Romy’s Shrimp, or North Shore Tacos. Don’t forget to get a shave ice at Matsumoto’s too.

Other amazing cliff jumping spots on Oahu
Here are some other places where you can go cliff jumping on the island and I have photos or guides for most of them.
Cliff jumps with hikes to get to:
- Maunawili Falls
- Waimano Pools
- Kalihi Ice Ponds
- Alan Davis Beach
Cliff jumps with no hikes to get to:
- Spitting Caves (pictured above)
- China Walls
- Waimea Bay
- The back of the Mokes (though you have to kayak there)
Where to stay on Oahu
If you plan to stay on the North Shore, my favorite spot is Turtle Bay Resort. You’ll get the full ‘Hawaii vacation’ experience there and they have a lot of fun tours and activities run through the resort too, as well as some great on-site snorkeling.
If you will be staying in Waikiki, my favorite place there is the Hilton Hawaiian Village.
For guesthouses or a different hotel, I recommend checking out Booking.com because that is what I use to search accommodations and I can usually find a good deal there.
I hope this has been able to help you plan your own adventure to the Forgetting Sarah Marshall jump spot.
